On to Canvas

Week Five

After completing some A3 sketches on paper and a few hundred smaller ones, the next logical step, for which I was chomping at the bit, was to move to small canvases. I chose canvas for a few reasons. Canvas was my end goal but really the main reason was that, I had acquired a fairly large collection of canvases and had enough at my disposal to be able to experiment freely! I had not yet tried my most recently practiced painting technique on canvas, I had no idea how it would work. I had been relying on the flexibility of the support to aid the process. My first attempts ran into quite a lot of difficulty, so much so that there did not seem to be a way to work into them after the first layer.

There are definitely aspects of this painting I really like.
This was nothing particularly new for me, although interesting.

These first tries were more miss than hit, but that’s totally normal when trying something new! The benefit of paint is, you can paint over it! In the past I may have been very happy with the outcome. Although I was pleased with the progress, I know that there can be a lot more brought out of this process. I just don’t know exactly what it is yet.
