Composing

10 February 2019

Week Two

This week started off with being introduced to screen printing. One method involving water soluble crayons.

Later in the day I played around with grouping last week’s images together and experimented with unexpected compositions. My mind set has been to explore freely but thoroughly. I hadn’t till this point properly worked in series and it was to my amazement, I found I could really get into this world I created by focussing my efforts. I began to not be so seduced by wild new thoughts and instead figured out ways of using what I found appealing about them and applying it to my creative force.

I set out this term to experiment with the spontaneous and unexpected qualities fluid oil paint and gestural mark making have. This process reflects life with its unpredictability and strong sense of the present moment in time. Automatic drawing practices fuel my creative process which searches my subconscious. As a painter, for keeping the passion fresh, it is important to not fixate on the final image. You never know how things will work out. Where’s the enjoyment if you know exactly what the outcome will be?
